Professor Comer is the author of Landscapes of the New West: Gender and Geography in Contemporary Women’s Writing. She has published essays on the impact of Western literature on the New Western history, regionalism and transnationalism, third-wave feminism, and contemporary American youth culture. Her current works in progress include a book-length cultural study of California women’s surfing and the geneology of “surfing” the Web. She teaches a range of courses in 20th-century American literary and cultural studies. She is past president of the Western Literature Association.
