Darren Arquero Wins Rice Commencement Award

Darren ArqueroThe Center congratulates Darren Arquero who won the 2011 Commencement Award at Rice. Darren participated in just about every program and activity the Center offers undergraduates.  He double-majored in the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality and Political Science and he minored in Poverty, Justice and Human Capabilities. He participated in the summer internship program, the engaged research seminar and practicum, and wrote an honors thesis.

Many of us who know him and worked with him during his years at Rice will miss him dearly, but we know he will continue to make waves in the world, beginning with the doctoral program in Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley which he joins in August.

Thisis the third year in a row since the award was founded that a student majoring in the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality has won: Rachel Kinney received it in 2009 and Anna Roberts in 2010.  Congratulations to all of their teachers and mentors!
